Paw Care For Happy Feet

Paw Care For Happy Feet

Key Points

  • Paws play the heavy-duty role of protecting your pet as they stand, walk, or run. They protect against hard, rough surfaces and absorb the shock of physical activity.
  • With all the hard work, paw care and hygiene become critical to minimize the wear and tear caused to the paw surface.
  • Small steps like disinfecting paws and applying paw butter will help keep those paw beans soft and pain-free.

Fact: Paws are for walking, running, digging holes, showing love by tapping on the arm, pawing the hooman awake, and scritching for treats!

Additional Fact: Paws are cute! They need care, to stay cute 😊

Yay! We agree on all these. However, paws perform some critical functions that impact your fur baby’s quality of everyday life. Like, you ask? Walking bare Paws, traversing different terrains, weight-bearing, sweating, and sometimes, like our hands, holding toys and treats.

As your dog walks, the paw pads pick up all kinds of allergens, infections, and irritants. We usually realize the extent of this infection when we see the dog licking and chewing their feet. At times, infection can lead to open wounds that may bleed or seep. We are all familiar with the pain of those smelly or dark pink paws that have lost fur or are crusty!

Paw Care involves soaking of paws in Povidone Iodine, followed by thorough drying to ensure no fungus growth

They say prevention is better than cure. Prevention is always a long-term commitment, like good habits. Luckily for us, it is not difficult! A quick and easy solution to drastically reduce foot infections in dogs is a paw soak in Povidone Iodine. How does Povidone Iodine help? It is a non-toxic antifungal and antibacterial solution that can clean paws efficiently.

In India, Povidone Iodine is commonly available at pharmacies or on some E-commerce shopping websites, depending on the serviceability of your pin code.

Choose a tub, tray, or Paw Cleaner Cup based on your dog’s size. Fill up enough water to dip the Paw completely. Add some Povidone Iodine solution to the water – 10 ml to every 100 ml of water. Soak paws between 2 to 5 mins (each Paw or together) and then dry the Paws. The solution does not need rinsing. Remember, moisture in the paws can lead to bacteria overgrowth, which can cause a secondary yeast infection. Ensure that your pup’s paws are completely dry.

Once dry, apply our Paw Butter to keep those paw beans shiny and soft! Apply Paw Butter as a daily bedtime ritual. This once-a-day exercise will help the paws recoup and minimize the chances of your pup slipping if you apply too much.

For first-timers, if your dog is not happy participating in this paw-cleaning ritual with you, shower them with love, treats, and rubs for being a good boi/gurl!
